A Train & Round Midnight ▪ Dymally International Jazz and Arts Festival

Watercolor Composite, 36" x 48", 2023, Carson, California

The Dymally International Jazz Arts and Arts Festival, first implemented in 2019, is designed to use artistic culture to promote and inspire thought. The late Mervyn Dymally was an internationalist, traveling over 60 countries throughout his political career-promoting the exchange of cultures throughout the world.

The musicians' incredible skill and passion moved the crowd to erupt into applause as the notes floated effortlessly on the warm evening breeze against the stunning Cerulean and Cinnabar sky, creating a truly magical and wondrous moment that celebrated music's power to unite people and would be remembered for years to come.

ROOTED IN CARE ▪ LA Metro’s Arts & Design Program (Proposed)

Vector Composite, 12’ x 40' & 12’ x 28’ , 2023, Los Angeles, California

I proposed four site-responsive mural artworks to be printed as large-scale temporary construction site visual mitigation banners of the Westside Purple (D Line) Extension Project, Section 3, Westwood/VA Hospital Station construction site.

Rooted in Care, a design project that draws upon the landscape of the West LA VA Medical Center and the UCLA Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Gardens, aspires to remind residents and visitors of the recuperative and meditative potential of plant life and to increase our capacity to care more deeply for one another by reflecting the extent to which trees are extremely social, how they help each other through their vast root systems, and how they ensure sustainable ecologies.

WHO ARE YOU WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING? ▪ Braxton Cook : Album Cover

Crosshatch Composite, 24" x 36", 2023, Los Angeles, California

Emmy Award-Winning, Julliard-trained jazz-R&B artist and saxophonist Braxton Cook has released his fifth album "Who Are You When No One Is Watching?" that reflects on his growth as a father, husband and his independent artist background. The album features standout singles like "MB (for Ma'Khia Bryant)" and "90s" with Masego, praised by Billboard, NPR Music, PAPER, OkayPlayer, and Jazziz Magazine. Cook's innovative blend of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop is showcased on this boundary-pushing odyssey.

GREENSLEEVES ▪ LOS ANGELES 26th Central Ave Jazz Festival

Stencil Collage, 18" x 24", 2021, Los Angeles, California

From the early 1900s to the 1950s, Central Avenue was the epicenter of the Los Angeles music scene, especially jazz and rhythm & blues. With music as its binder, Central Avenue quickly became the heart and soul of the African American community in Los Angeles. This annual event celebrates the legacy of the historic Central Avenue corridor and is one of the last few genuine jazz celebrations left in the Southern California region.

MODERN EXPLORERS ▪ Patagonia + Outward Bound Adventures : Environmental Justice Windows Project

Stencil Collage (2200 Layers), 77.5" x 111", 2021, Pasadena, California

Outward Bound Adventures (OBA), founded in 1962, is the oldest non-profit organization in the country. My work, "Modern Explorers / Diversify The Outdoors," commemorates its commitment to providing outdoor education, conservation, and environmental learning expeditions to primarily low-income urban and rural youth and their families. The program aims to offer opportunities for individuals who might not otherwise have access to the wilderness and open spaces.

ART IS TARDIS ▪ Auspice Now : Praline Soul Searching

360 ° Collage Composite, 69" x 34", 2021, Chicago, Illinois

Praline Soul Searching is a diasporic intersection of experience and prophesy; dictating where we are and where we can be socially as well as sonically. It is a sultry moment in eternity captioned by the emotion of being. Lost/found ballads of ancient futures collected and resurrected through karma’s scribe. A love letter to creativity, resilience, and adaptability, nourishing our desires for uninhibited expression.

Praline Soul Searching is a craftily curated musical compilation introducing you to the worlds we will create for your experiential pleasure.

BLUE SIGHTS ▪ LA Metro Art Portrait Series: More People Than You Know

Stencil Collage (250 Layers), 34" x 27", 2019, Los Angeles, California

This series is designed to feature and engage the different neighborhoods surrounding the stations of the Metro system. This rotating exhibition features portraits of patrons created by artists connected to the neighborhoods served by the A-Line (Blue). I worked closely with Metro Art at every stage of the process to produce work as intimate, immediate, and relevant art to the local community. Blue Sights is a portrait of my wife riding the light rail between Long Beach and Los Angeles while looking into the vast LA basin during a sunrise. The subject reflects how residents of this textured city navigate between individualism and interconnectedness.

GIANT STEPS ▪ LOS ANGELES 24th Central Ave Jazz Festival

Stencil Collage, 18" x 24", 2019, Los Angeles, California

A reflection of John Coltrane, a young man plays his saxophone while walking past the Dunbar Hotel in South Central Los Angeles. The past and present move together as he draws inspiration from legends that walked and played there before him. The iconic hotel shared the music of genre-defining jazz musicians who redefined the tone of their times. As the inaugural Official Artist for the 24th annual L.A. Central Ave Jazz Fest, I used my visual language to speak to and for the South Central Los Angeles community, amplifying the voices of a community that often goes unheard.

CONJOINING ▪ iBme Inward Bound Mindfulness Education

Watercolor Composite, 18" x 24", 2020, Concord, Massachusetts

Justice and equity are at the core of mindfulness and compassion. To capture their values and actions related to this truth, iBme created an Equity and Interdependence Dashboard and published a new 10-Year Equity Progress Report. In it they provide testimony to the ways in which they have sought to answer this fundamental question: How does a historically white-led mindfulness organization that values connection, inclusion, and non-judgment authentically “walk the walk” at all levels of the organization?

I was commissioned by the non-profit to create a limited-edition art print in honor of their 10-year anniversary, which graced the cover of their inaugural Equity & Interdependence Report.

OLD TOWN SUNDAY ▪ LA Metro’s Arts & Design Program (Proposed)

Stencil Collage, 30.5" x 16.5", 2020, Monrovia, California

A young Monrovian reflects on the space where past, present, and future meet as they capture the beauty of the waters of Library Park’s fountain on a Sunday afternoon where they once played as a child.

I chose to highlight Library Park in Old Town Monrovia as a place of connection between past, present, and future, and the cities’ diverse communities. The library itself is the result of the self-determination, pride, and generosity of its people as it was created by The Women’s Club of Monrovia for the future generations of their beloved city. True to the spirit of its founders, Library Park is woven into my personal past, present, and future. Not only was my great-great grandfather William Prince was the founding pastor of the Bethel Monrovia A.M.E Church that flanks the park, my wife was born in Monrovia and we had our first date by the fountain in Library Park. As we all look towards an unpredictable and unprecedented future, Monrovia offers to its people and visitors a reminder of the beauty and importance of coming together for the common good.

SONIC FORCE + TROOPERS DELIGHT ▪ HIP HOP TROOPER

Stencil Collage, 72" x 132", 2015, San Diego, California

This trooper grew up on the def star. Trading his blaster for a fresh pair of kicks and a boombox. When the Hip Hop Trooper comes to conventions a parade of fans follow the thump of his boombox.

Using elements of his identity, I created a large art backdrop he could use to take photos and perform in front of at comic conventions.
